EVE Energy's eXtreme-Fast-Charging Technology Made a Stunning Debut at the 1st SNE Battery Day in South Korea

Jul 29,2024

On July 23, the 1st SNE Battery Day, organized by SNE Research, took place in Seoul, South Korea, where Dr. Ren Ren from the Central Research Institute of EVE Energy was invited to participate. Dr. Ren's presentation on 'Introduction of eXtreme-Fast-Charging Technology' attracted widespread attention from the audience.

According to the presentation, Dr. Ren first analyzed the current state of the new energy vehicle market, noting that consumers are generally anxious about charging time and driving range. Despite some vehicles achieving a range of over 400 km, and even 1000 km, the charging speed is typically slow, which highlights the urgency of developing fast charging technology. Although the current mainstream fast-charging solution of power batteries can provide an efficient charging experience, it usually comes at the cost of reduced energy density of these batteries. Therefore, it needs to balance fast charging and high specific energy in power battery design.

Dr. Ren stated that to solve this issue, EVE Energy has been developing technology of high specific energy with a fast charging performance since 2018, achieving a range of technological innovations, such as high porosity straight thick electrode, EC-free electrolyte, ultra-thin superconducting separator, and silicon surface stabilization technology. These research achievements ensure that EVE Energy's batteries possess numerous strengths, including eXtreme fast charging and high specific energy, meeting the core needs of new energy vehicle users.

Under the test conditions, the performance of EVE Energy's batteries with eXtreme-fast-charging technology is excellent. After 1500 cycles of 1C/1C charging, the cell capacity remains over 80% and there is no degradation in the 6-minute eXtreme-fast-charging cycle, indicating no damage to the cells and compliance with the service life requirements for passenger cars.

Meanwhile, the products show excellent discharge performance across a very wide temperature range. For example, it maintains a capacity retention rate of 80% at -20°C, indicating an effective solution to the driving range concerns during vehicle usage in winter. In terms of energy storage, this latest battery technology ensures that the rate of voltage decline in a fully charged state is comparable to that of existing systems, as demonstrated when compared to the control group of Gr+SiO products. In addition, the products have received the UN38.3 certification, ensuring the safety of use.

In the application stage, the 50Ah cells developed by EVE Energy reach 60% charge in just 6 minutes in comparison with other commercialized 50Ah cells, reducing the charging time by 80% and increasing energy density by 18%. This achievement allows a 6-minute charging for a 500-mile driving range, promising a convenient and efficient driving experience for new energy vehicle users.

EVE Energy will utilize its strengths to accelerate research in eXtreme-fast-charging technology, popularizing new energy vehicles and contributing to global sustainability in the future.
